Getting to Know Me

Your adventurous overseas traveler at the old Olympıc Stadıum ın Athens

Hello all!  My name is Matt – I’m a junior at Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan.  While at SVSU, I’ve written for the campus paper as a student reporter, and been involved in other writing projects on campus.  So I am very excited for the opportunity to continue my writing through this blog.

The number one question I get from people is, “Why are you involved in so much writing?  You’re majoring in computers!”  And it’s true – I’m a Computer Information Systems major, which means I’m a computer guy, but not a computer geek (I don’t play D&D.)  I guess I just have an eclectic set of hobbies.

The second most asked question I get is, “Why 3 months in Greece?  Why can’t you just go to Cancun for a week, like normal people?”  First of all, I have a severe case of what my friend calls the “travel bug.”  Over the past two years, I’ve been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to travel to Spain with the SVSU choir, and fly to Guyana, where I helped build low-income housing with SVSU’s Alternative Breaks.  Ever since, I’ve wanted to see as much of the world around me as possible.  And why not see a place that’s been around for thousands of years?  Growing up in a country that is only a few hundred years old, I’m fascinated by the ancient.

So there are the basics – stayed tuned to the Athens Adventure, where I will post something new and exciting at least once a week.  I can’t wait to see how it turns out, and I promise that you’ll hear all about it.  If you have any questions or thoughts, please send them my way.
