Introduction to Holly
Hi, I’m Holly, a senior from PDX, studying at the University of Otago in Dunedin New Zealand.
I'm from Aloha Oregon, and am a full time student at Portland State University, finishing up my Bachelors of Science in Business Administration: Supply and Logistics Management with a focus on the food industry, specifically food processing.
Born in Colorado, I lived in seven different states across the Midwest and Western United States before I was fourteen. Since then I have lived in a suburb of Portland, Oregon, but love to travel. I have visited British Columbia, Amsterdam, Ireland, and in 2003 spent a week in London as a solo traveler. When travelling, I like to spend time in one area, trying to get to know and understand the culture of the area.
Completion of a college degree is important to me. Like a lot of people, I first started college directly after high school. At that time, I had no idea what I wanted to study and was not ready to be out on my own. Following my freshman year, I returned home and got a job. Twelve years later I decided to finally return to school and get a degree.
I have wanted to study abroad since I originally started college. With this being my final semester; I decided to make the most of the opportunity and finish up by studying at the University of Otago in Dunedin New Zealand.
I’m here to gain some outside perspectives and a wider understanding of the global economy. While in New Zealand, I am taking classes from the Food Science Department: including Food and Cultural Perspective, Sensory Science, and Food Quality Management, which applies to food industry management.
I’m a little more serious than a lot of the study abroad students here, mostly because I’m older and not here to surf, ski or snowboard. I do like to listen to New Zealand music, which you can sample at www.kwiwfm.co.nz, and am also an avid photographer. I will be posting some photos on this site, and you can check out the rest at www.flickr.com/photos/hollysgoingoff/ . In addition to this blog on the AHA site, you can also check out my personal blog at www.hollysgoingoff.net, it contains background on my experience so far, and other random bits.
