Getting Settled
More on my first week in London
This city is so amazing. It is huge beyond belief, but I have only seen a couple of skyscrapers. It seems that the city grows out rather than up. It is so bizzare to see modern building right next to those that are 300 years old. We took a river boat ride on Tuesday and I will include a couple of pictures. We were on the river for hours and we still only saw a a bit of the city. The tour guide was pretty smart, and pointed out riverside pubs that pirates drank at and another that Dickens used to write in. After that we explored Greenwich and saw the old buildings that used to be Britains naval headquarters. Then we went to the pub and all got an ale, compliments of AHA. I have only had a couple of classes so far. My Art and Architecture class is going to be great. We spent today walking around the British Museum looking at Greek sculptures. That place is so huge that I could spend days walking around there and probably still not see everything. I have done so much walking around here. It is a pretty good way to get around and see everything, once you get used to the drivers. Most of them will not stop for you unless they have a red light, and even then it isn't a sure thing. Once you get a pocket sized tube map it is nearly impossible to get lost. If you can find a tube station, then you can find your way home. It may take an hour or so and you may get uncomfortably close to people, but you will make it there. Tommorow we go to Kew Gardens so unless it rains I should have some nice nature pics for you soon.
