Midterm week

Tests and preparations for my week off.

Midterm week

Buckingham Palace on a beautiful October(!) day

One of my favorite things about this London program is the week off we get in the middle for travel. Of course, it's also another excuse to spend lots of money and ruin my budget even more, but hey, you're only here once.

Before I get to go travel, there are a few housekeeping things to take care of. Like midterms and papers. For some reason teachers always feel like they need to do those things... I don't get it.

I'm actually pretty lucky. I only have one real test (that I finished today!) and then I have a take-home test that's due after break and another small quiz. So I'm pretty happy about that.

Last Saturday was pretty solid, too. First, the weather was unseasonably warm and sunny. I also saw the final showing of In Extremis for the season at the Globe and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I expected to like it, but it was much funnier and enjoyable than I thought it would be. Before the play, I walked around Central London a bit and visited Buckingham Palace - well, the outside gate of it at least. It's really surprising how walkable London actually is. I covered a good amount of territory.

That night, a bunch of people went to a sports bar near Piccadilly Circus. That was awesome because I got to see my first baseball game since July and my first college football games since January! I definitely needed a good American sports fix.

Back to next week. I think I'm going up to northern England for the first part - Liverpool, Manchester, York and all that - before going up to Scotland for the last few days - Edinburgh and Glasgow. I've heard lots of good things about most of those places so I'm really excited.

Bon voyage.
