The Week That Was: York, Liverpool and the Land of the Scots

Magical Mystery Tour

The Scottish Parliament

And here I am
Back again
Returned from my mid-term break.

I told y'all I was a poet...

----------------

While many of my classmates travelled south to warmer regions of Europe (see: Greece), I found myself going the other direction, north to visit some friends of my parents and some places of interest.

I stayed a few nights in Sheffield, England with an English family and used their house as a base to take some day trips to York and Liverpool. Both cities were really cool.

There was one main reason I wanted to go to York and that's the minster. I was not at all disappointed (except for the prices, but there's nothing I can really do about that...).

York Minster

In Liverpool I met up with my friend Chris from London (you can read his blog on this same Web site, if you wish) and we went on a Magical Mystery Tour (yes, that was the name of the bus tour) to all sorts of different Beatles places - Paul's house, John's house, Penny Lane, Strawberry Field, etc, etc, etc...

Penny Lane

Edinburgh was the next stop for me. I must make the claim that it is among the more beautiful cities I have ever seen. The old stone buildings and spires command the view from nearly everywhere. The Scottish Parliament building (as seen in the main blog picture) is in a world all of its own, but it's pretty cool too. I ran down to the Firth of Forth one morning. The map made it look like only two miles from my hostel, but there's no way that's true. It took me the better part of an hour to get there. I may be out of shape, but not that bad...

Edinburgh

Glasgow was the final stop before returning to London. I only had one day there, so I didn't get to see much. I did walk through the University of Glasgow and stumble across a James Watt Nanofabrication Centre... A little out of my league, but hey, someone's gotta do it.

And finally, I took a nine-hour coach ride back to London yesterday. So of course we hit traffic and it ended up being ten hours. But I made it. And classes started again today. Good fun, no?
