Coast to Capital to Church

Dover trip, Westminster visit, St. Paul concert.

Is it Thursday already? I'm pretty happy about that. That is, I would be happy if I weren't so completely out of it that I really don't know what's going on. So good luck trying to understand my babble today.

Yesterday, the NCSA group took a day trip to Dover to visit the White Cliffs and the castle. When we showed up, the castle was closed and was being used to film some movie... I don't remember the title, but it was "_____ Sisters". So that really kinda sucked, but the cliffs were really awesome. They were a pretty good walk from the city center, including an uphill climb. Well, they have to be cliffs over something, right? I didn't spend a whole lot of time out there, which I kinda regret from listening to everybody else's stories about turrets and tunnels from World War II and stuff, but I had to get back to London by 7pm to meet up with a cousin from Sweden that I'd just found out was also studying in London. I think we figured out that our great-grandparents were brother and sister before my side of the family moved to the U.S.

Back to Dover for a bit, though. It was overall a pretty disappointing city. They had some of the ugliest post-WW2 apartment buildings and hotels right next to the water and the town had a real industrial seaport feel, instead of the castle/White Cliffs/tourist feel that I'd always imagined.

Today, as part of the South Asia class (combined with the race and ethnicity class), we went and visited with an MP (Member of Parliament, not Military Police...) from an Asian community. It was a pretty short deal, but still fairly interesting. We were in the new building, built only six years ago for the Millennium, not the one that you always see on postcards. I didn't even know it existed, myself.

Tonight is a concert at St. Paul's Cathedral. I think it'll be really cool to be inside there and be at a concert.

Hopefully tomorrow I can make myself sleep in. I think I need it.
